ann with an e

In Wednesday's post I promised that I would share more about how the kids + I have been listening to Anne of Green Gables on cd in the car. I have heard for years now how amazing all of the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre productions are, but I had never checked them out for myself. Then couple of weeks ago, my friend Chelle lent me a few of her own to borrow, and now we are completely in love! They truly are amazing!

It took us about a week or so to get through Anne of Green Gable and it was so, so lovely. I really don't know if the kids or I enjoyed it more! I couldn't believe how much of the story touched me. Time and time again, I wished that I could pull the car over and right down inspiring quotes I heard. I grew up watching the well-known 80s PBS version of Anne of Green Gables- it has always been one of my very favorite movies- but I have never read the books themselves (although I have read other books by  L.M. Montgomery). Reading the entire Anne of Green Gables series is now super high on my reading list, if not to the kids, at least to myself!

For now, we are listening to the radio broadcast again; after we finished it the other day, Audrey immediately requested to listen to it all over again. We love listening to books on cd in the car, but I think Anne of Green Gables was hands-down our very favorite. Even Elliot, my super boyish boy, listened to the entire thing quietly!

What are your favorite books to listen to?

  1. I adore Anne. We listen to that set all the time. FOTFRT's Little Women and The Secret Garden are superb. These three stories are in my top 10 of all books that I constantly reread and listen to. They are SO well done. My boys (3&5) love them as much as I do. Their The Hiding Place is amazing, but something I listen to w/o kids. It is too intense. We all also love the entire Little House on the Prairie series read by Cherry Jones.

  2. I love Radio Theatre. I haven't heard this particular one, but I've enjoyed several others. The Anne of Green Gables series was my gift to myself with my birthday money this year. I have about a book and a half until I'm finished. I'm loving them. Growing up, my sister and I watched the movies over and over. I've signed my name "Ann with an A" many times, too :) So glad you are all enjoying this story together.

  5. Ohhhhh....I LOVE Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre! We were given a few of their albums, and Mike and I have listened to them on the long car trips from Seattle to Idaho. So lovely. I didn't know they had Anne of Green Gables, though--what a treasure! I'll have to find a copy!

  6. I love listening to Winne-the-Pooh in autumn. There's nothing as refreshing as spending a crisp, fall day in the Hundred Acre Wood. :-)

  7. Thank you for this suggestion! Zoey actually listens to books on cd before bed and loves them...I just ordered this one from Amazon now and am so excited to get it! :) She currently listens to Freckle Juice, Winnie the Pooh, Junie B. Jones, James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Thanks again for the suggestion!
